A showy, native, long-lived perennial that is somewhat adaptable but prefers the bright shade and moist acidic soils of a woodland garden. Spigelia marilandica 'Little Redhead' is an absolute butterfly favorite with scarlet tubular flowers from which lemon yellow centers seem to explode out of the top.
